ABSTRACT
Male infertility may occur due to different causes. Therefore, different therapeutic approaches had been applied in order to improve the ability of men to get children. Semen analysis is used to determine the fertility potential in male, but the occurrence of pregnancy is the evidence of sperm ability for fertilization. Although male fertility is affected by food and nutrients, but there are little attention on the use of zinc sulphate and no previous studies on the use of pollen of Date Palm in the treatment of male infertility. Therefore, the objective includes the treatment of infertile men attended the infertility clinic in Saddam General Hospital in Kirkuk city. One hundred fifteen infertile men were treated with zinc sulphate, twenty four with pollen of Date Palm, and twenty five with a combined therapy of zinc sulphate and pollen . A combined therapy was used in order to verify synergistic effect of zinc sulphate and pollen of Date Palm. Our study showed that, the treatments are safe and there were no side
effects, biochemical and haematological changes were recorded. After 3 months of treatment, the semen plasma zinc concentrations, testosterone level, sperm count and active motility, and intercourse/week were increased significantly in infertile men. While, blood serum zinc concentration was increased in infertile men treated with zinc sulphate or zinc sulphate and pollen. FSH and LH levels were increased in infertile men treated with pollen or with a combined therapy. Pregnancy was occurred in 16.5% wives of infertile men treated with zinc sulphate, in 8.3% wives of infertile men treated the pollen and in 8% wives of infertile men treated the combined therapy.
